Yammer Greatly Improves Search Speed

One of Yammer’s greatest benefits is the unlimited amount of internal messaging archived over time, creating a company-wide knowledge base. This knowledge base is a quick way for users to reference previous discussions around topics, keywords, and hash-tags. Not only can current employees take advantage of this feature, it is especially effective to on-board new employees, bringing them up to speed on what’s going on within the organization.

Yammer has consistently implemented features to more easily tap into this vital knowledge base. Since introducing full-time search capabilities, we have also added Advanced Search functionality so that users can specify their queries by particular users, dates, and/or groups. To make searching even better, Yammer has now improved its search speed by two magnitudes – or in other words, search just became a whole lot faster. Users will be able to search and access discussions quicker, leading to more internal knowledge and more efficient productivity.

New Features: Cross-Client Unread Message Highlighting

After recently passing the 50,000 network mark, Yammer has continued adding innovative features to improve user-experience. Today we’re pleased to announce two new features:

  • Unread message highlighting in web and desktop clients
  • Full-text search in the desktop client

Unread Message Highlighting in Web and Desktop Clients

Unread message highlighting, a popular feature of our iPhone application, is now available in the web and desktop clients! After refreshing, users can better keep track of new messages that appear in their feed via a blue dot icon which will appear next to all new messages. A horizontal gray bar will further differentiate the new messages from older ones.

The desktop client will follow the same behavior by highlighting new messages with a light-yellow background.

The read/unread status of your messages is synchronized across all supported clients, so messages you have seen on the desktop client won’t be marked as unread on the web or iPhone.

Full Desktop-Client Search Functionality

Users can search for any keyword anytime through the desktop client. With full-text search functionality, Yammer becomes a greater, more invaluable knowledge-base for your company.

Yammer is continuing to develop quickly, and we have multiple projects we are excited about and working on for the near-future. Of course, we want to know what our users think about our new features, so please give us your feedback. If you have any other questions or concerns, visit our help page.

Yammer Powers By 50,000 Network Mark
