Mobile experience is a key area of focus for Yammer, especially as more and more users are using these apps to connect on-the-go. We’re happy to unveil a brand new set of mobile apps for Android 3.0 and iOS 5.0, which we released yesterday. At a high level, the major changes are a completely new sliding navigation (a la Facebook) and a re-designed feed UI. These changes are massive improvements to the interface and usability of our apps. Users can now perform actions such as Replying or Liking from within the feed, view file previews within the app, and view different message types (Announcements, Praise, etc) on their mobile phones.
New Navigation (iPhone and Android):
New navigation features:
- Sliding left navigation allows for quick access and switching between your feed, Private Messages, Groups, Networks and Accounts
- Group counters to easily track new activity within your groups
- New header provides access to Private Messages and Notifications
- Note: new navigation will be available on the iPad next month
New Navigation & Notifications on iPhone and Android:
Feed Re-design (iPhone, iPad and Android):
Feed redesign features:
- Cleaner, more intuitive design
- Reply and Like conversations from within the feed
- Number of Likes and Replies is displayed within the feed
- Announcements, Events, Praise, Polls and Questions are now supported
- Unread messages now display with a blue indicator in the top-right
- Display thumbnails and titles for Pages
- Display thumbnail previews for images and videos
- Display thumbnail icons for file attachments (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF)
- In-app file preview (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, CSV, RTF, source code and plaintext)
- - Improved image viewer

We hope you enjoy using Yammer via your mobile apps, and we are looking forward to your feedback!

The new mobile app for iPhone is a downgrade. Not all bad but a downgrade overall for me. First, the bottom is easier to reach most of the time than the top so moving functions to the top makes it harder to use. This is magnified by the fact that almost everything is now in the sliding side menu but that is accessible now only from a top mounted button, very annoying. Much less smooth action than on the previous app where all were right at my thumb. Which app is more pleasant to move around, Facebook or Twitter? I never thought switching b/t groups was all that hard so I don’t think the side nav is an improvement. I hate the side nav in the Facebook app and I don’t like it here either. You give it less real estate b/c now you condense the horizontal axis with the portion of the sliding window that remains visible. So same amount of effort but less useful. Not cool. Apple uses bottom 4-5 button navs on most native apps for good reason, it is the natural place to put them, right by your thumbs.
On the plus side I really like the new stream/feed layout. Simpler and better display IMO. Easier to see different bits and easier to distinguish unread msgs from read. Also seems faster to me.
Its obviously not a deal breaker but I spend a lot of time on the app and so a small UI downgrade makes it a lot more annoying for me. It seems like some serious design horsepower went into this redo so I am interested to hear why we are back to a side nav and all the buttons pushed as far as possible from my thumbs. Yammer, what gives?
I’m sorry you feel the navigation changes are a downgrade. We made this change to highlight some of the more important feeds in Yammer( My Feed, Private Messages, and Notifications) while enabling us to add more feature areas to the app. These feature areas are not present today, but they are coming in the near future and so this is an iteration towards that. We will make adjustments to the navigation as we go to make it better and easier to use. Thanks for you feedback.
Nothing for BlackBerry users?

I believe there will be an updated BB Yammer app on May 30th.:)
Thank you Jane.
Any news about the BB Yammer app release announced for yesterday?
We expect to beta the new release shortly, followed by an official rollout.
Ive just updated. I only see in my groups: All company and more Groups. But i dont see the subgroups. Will this be changed? I don’t know all groups by names. I search and search but for what if i can’t remember?
What do you mean by subgroups? There are no subgroups on Yammer; just groups.
Will you be adding a subgroups feature?
Hi Paul, subgroups are not planned, but you do have the ability to add “related groups”
How come you can’t see who has “liked” one of your posts from your wall feed in the updated iPhone app? Only number of likes? It’d be better if it was like the Facebook iphone app where you can click on the thumbs up to see who has liked it.
This is something we would like to add to the app eventually. We are always working to improve the app and this is one area that we also feel needs improvement.
Hey,
Is this feature ever likely to be included on the app?
Ever since I upgraded, I no longer see notifications. Our usage has dropped precipitously. Others have reported the same. Will there be a fix, soon?
That sounds like a bug. You should be able to see notifications (just check out the screenshot in this post). If you are not seeing the same, please let us know by filing a ticket at help.yammer.com or by emailing help @ yammer.com
This app looks great!
Thank you! Let us know if you have further feedback or questions!
Just downloaded the app. Not possible to see “Pages” or “Files” in the app? Looks like only conversations . . . Is this correct?
Thanks.
What app are you using? In the iOS app, you are able to view Pages and Files. You can edit them in mobile web, which is where it takes you when you click on a Page.
Any plans to support Windows Phone 7.5 or 8?
I have the Google Nexus 7 tablet, running Droid 4.1.1. When I did a search for the Yammer mobile app on Google Play, it says “Your device isn’t compatible with this version”. Any plans to release a version that will?
Thanks
Hi Mark, we pushed version 3.0.2 to Google Play last week. This should fix compatibility issues. Thank you for your patience, and please let us know if you encounter any additional issues.
Where do I find Yammer “pages” on my Android phone?
I can not view videos on my Galaxy S3, all I get is a thumbnail and says ‘Video playback not supported’ when will this get implented?
Videos in Yammer or videos on this blog post? Could be that your browser does not support the file type. If it is an issue with Yammer, please contact help@yammer-inc.com
Hi – How does one find the Info, Files and Notes Tab on the iPad or on the Android mobile app? Having difficulty finding it.
Thanks
Hello Sudhhir, the tabs are not on the iPad or Mobile app. Thank you for your question

Hi SeongDoek – This would be a great question for our support team. You can find them at https://help.yammer.com/anonymous_requests/new
Thanks for your question, Shawn. We do not have the official Nexus 7 support yet, but the next version of our app should work on it. The app is due out soon, but I don’t yet have a firm date. Thank you for your patience!
Hi,
We’re now in October and there still is no Yammer App that runs on the Nexus 7. (runs fine on my Galaxy S2 though). Any more specific time frame than “soon”? It really bugs me that I can not use Yammer on my tablet.
Cheers,
Frits
Our developers pushed build 3.0.2 to Google Play last week, this should fix the Nexus 7 compatibility. Hope that helps!
