This week, we wrapped up another great Yammer on Tour event – this time in our hometown, San Francisco. Over 400 attendees gathered at the InterContinental San Francisco to hear from Yammer’s founder and CEO, David Sacks, in a keynote address about the Yammer vision and the Spring Release product announcements. During the keynote, Jim Lundy of Aragon Research joined David on stage to discuss his new report, “Why Social Networks are Replacing Intranets,” explaining the limitations of the traditional corporate intranet and the advantages of Enterprise Social Networks. David also demoed new features including Universal Search, Premium Groups and the new iPhone application. See below for the slides from the keynote presentation:
Event goers also had the opportunity to hear insights from a wide array of customers: SUPERVALU, Westfield, Deloitte, 7-Eleven, Verizon and Initiative. Key take-aways included:
- Use other channels to drive awareness and excitement around Yammer. Try a YamJam or create a funny video to broaden adoption
- Advice for executives: Be brave. It will be worth it once you power past the fear.
- Find links between activity on Yammer and business results. 7-Eleven noticed that the stores that were most active on Yammer were also the highest performing stores.
- With social, too much structure and over-taxonomizing does not create more meaning.

In addition to the main program, the event also included a special session for developers, where Yammer’s Chief Product Officer, James Patterson and Vice President of Business Development, An Le walked attendees through Yammer’s platform vision and API integration points. Geoff McQueen, Founder and CEO of AffinityLive – a recently announced integration partner – shared his experience developing on the Yammer platform and the value the integration brings to customers. Following the program, attendees got to network and mingle in an outdoor tented area as well as view demos from Yammer and event co-sponsors to learn about new features and integrations. It wouldn’t be a Yammer party without our signature cocktail “YamJuice” or prizes. Attendees played event games, “YamLibs” and “Snap It! Tweet It! Win It!” A picture is worth a thousand words, so check out all the fun through our community’s lenses: Were you there? Add a photo of your own! Congrats to all prize winners and a big thank you to all customers and partners who came out for the event and celebration in San Francisco! Did you attend the event?
