Drumming Up Collaboration

At Yammer, we are committed to helping people and organizations to be more effective by making content social.  Today we’re announcing exciting news that will take social content discovery to a powerful new level.  Drumroll, please….

Yammer has acquired oneDrum, a UK-based software company that offers file sharing and collaboration solutions for businesses. With the acquisition, Yammer is gaining powerful desktop sync capabilities, enabling file folders to be shared across multiple user desktops. oneDrum also brings collaborative functionality to Microsoft Office applications, allowing multiple authors to work together on Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents in real time.

Yammer is making content that exists on the desktop instantly shareable, while requiring no additional action from the user. The acquisition of oneDrum will help Yammer users get work done faster, smarter and with greater transparency. Key features include:

  • Sync: Users will be able to access Yammer files through a folder on their desktop. Inside this folder, users will see subfolders for each Yammer group that they are a member of. Thus, every Yammer group becomes a shared folder for the team.
  • Discover: Each Yammer file lives at a unique URL (or permalink) where it can be viewed in the browser, followed, shared and discussed. Following a file will notify the user of changes. Users can also view a revision history.
  • Co-Create: Employees can work collaboratively inside a Word, PowerPoint or Excel file added to the Yammer desktop folder.

Yammer will begin introducing oneDrum functionality by Summer 2012 as a client download, with no plug-ins required. If you would like to learn more about Yammer and oneDrum in-person, please register for Yammer on Tour: San Francisco, happening on April 24.

Last but not least, please join us in welcoming oneDrum’s employees to the Yammer family. All of oneDrum’s employees will join Yammer, with CEO Jasper Westaway leading the integration of the two products.

This looks like a major step in building collaboration potential across Yammer networks. Congratulations! When can we expect to see this released?

    • Maria says:

Thanks, James! As mentioned above, you will start seeing the integration this summer. We’ll keep iterating and perfecting, so we can deliver the best solution to the market.

      • Steve Novak says:

        Hello,
I am really sad that oneDrum has ceased its service while Yammer not yet started it! I have just learned about oneDrum two days ago, installed it, signed up and invited my co-workers and announced the company that here is the ultimate solution and asked them to sign up and use it. One day later the service is completely gone, there is no longer any option to collaborate on Excel files in real time. I also signed up on Yammer just because of oneDrum functionality but I have learned that it is not provided for an uncertain time.
As per my experience, sometimes, to be the first is better than to be better…. this apply for this case as well. If you cannot use oneDrum functionality than people has no other choice than introducing the use of Google docs, MS Sharepoint or MS 365 or MS Web Office solutions or look for something else.

        • Maria says:

Steve — I completely understand your frustration. oneDrum is really a great tool, and we are excited about it becoming part of the Yammer platform. When it got purchased by Yammer, it ceased to be an independent product. We are working hard on the integration, and we hope that you will think it’s worth waiting for. Thank you for your patience!

    • Maria says:

Hello, Charles! Great seeing you here! We look forward to sharing the demo / beta with you. We think it’s going to be a huge step in helping Yammer users take it to the next level with their collaboration efforts.

  4. Rajeev says:

    Thanks,

  6. I am in the same boat as Steve Novak. I created all these accounts for Sales Team in OneDrum and now I cannot create a new user since service is down as it is acquired by Yammer.

I understand Yammer team is working hard to integrate it in their platform but will this feature be available in Yammer basic version.

Please let me know when will you going to go live with this feature and whether it is available in Basic version.

I need to answer the VP of Sales as soon as possible. I will look for alternate solutions if the service is not available.

    Please reply to my concern.

I tweeted couple of times and had no reply.

    Thanks

    Labhesh

    Hello,

Is the roll-out of OneDrum still planned for this summer ? Does it still have its place with the new place that Yammer wants to give to SharePoint, Office360 and such, following its acquisition by Microsoft ?

    Thanks,
    Bertrand

  8. Bertrand says:

Please give us some updates regarding the integration of oneDrum in Yammer ! Working collaboratively on Office documents through Yammer is currently *not* the best experience you can have on this platform. Is there any release schedule that you would care to share ?

    Thanks,
    Bertrand

  9. Deporte says:

Most leaders agree that effective collaboration is more important than ever in today’s turbulent business environment. In a “do-more-with-less” reality, it takes ongoing teamwork to produce innovative, cost-effective and targeted products and services
