Today we’re excited to announce a long-awaited analytics dashboard, which will allow our customers greater visibility into their network activity. It’s been one of the most highly requested features, and we worked closely with a group of our customers to spec it out.
More specifically, Version 1 of Yammer analytics will include the following metrics:
- Overview: Increase in members, likes, messages, files, and pages across the defined time span.
- Members: Number of members engaged (including a visual chart for engaged users), new members and total members, across a defined time span.. This is a critical update to member counts that existed in the admin panel previously. By helping users understand how many members are actively engaging with Yammer, steps can be taken to boost engagement. For the purposes of this metric, we define an engaged user as anyone who posted, commented or liked a piece of content.
- Messages: Number of messages posted — private and group — across the defined time span, as well as cumulative messages.
- Groups: Number of active groups and new groups, as well as total, public and private groups. This metric also includes top 5 performing groups across the defined time span.
- Files: Number of files (total and uploaded), as well as file views — across the defined time span. We will also include a visual chart of uploaded files — see below.
- Pages: Number of total pages, pages created and edited, as well as the number of page views — across the defined time span. We will also chart the number of pages created, as well as top 5 Pages (based on views) — see below.
- Access: Breakdown of how users access your network, through the following:
- Application: Website, Desktop, Sharepoint, Mobile, Embed and Other
- Mobile Application: iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone, iPad
For all the above metrics, you can choose to view statistics for the past 7 days or the past 28 days.
We are very excited to bring this capability to our customers. Not only will this allow a Yammer community manager or admin to better understand how the users are interacting with and using Yammer; all users in Premium networks will be able to view the Analytics Dashboard. Yammer believes in democratizing knowledge across organizations and empowering people to do the best they can do with this knowledge. This is why we are making analytics accessible to all users in premium networks, not just admins. We believe that the more users know, the more healthy the network will be, as everyone can collectively shape its direction.
The Analytics Dashboard will begin rolling out today and will be available to all premium networks by March 31, 2012. We will continue to improve our analytics and will work closely with our customers to do so.
How do you see the Analytics Dashboard impacting the way you use Yammer?

AAAAWWWWWWEEEEESSSSSSSOOOOOOMMMMME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m soooooo very excited about this. This dashboard of analytics will help us keep a pulse on the general health and utilization of Yammer in our organization. This won’t change how I use Yammer but it will help me better understand areas of our organization that I need to reach out to and help adopt the usage of Yammer. This will also help us understand our progress towards some of the goals that we have set towards Yammer usage in the organization. Thank you!
That’s wonderful to hear, Mike! Please keep us updated on how analytics are able to help drive usage and adoption across the organization. We’ll be doing a lot more in the area of analytics, so keep an eye on this area.
Great addition,
It would be a powerfull tool for ‘free account’ user to advice sr management to switch over to a premium version. At least for our organisation that would be the case.
Looking forward to some free trials…
Same for ours… The adoption and usage are the key factors in our struggle towards budgeting a premium account. Now that the basic statistic that used to show when you hover over our logo are removed, we have less ammo.
Absolutely! Our core free product is very strong, but by upgrading you get access to things like analytics, integrations, admin functions — so you can really take your Yammer usage to the next level. Have you had a chance to speak to someone? Happy to set you up with a demo.
This is so great, and have had some good feedback from my network already. Anything to share on what may be in Version 2?
Hi Louisa,
Great to see you here! We don’t have details for Version 2 yet, but we will be making improvements to V1 + adding new metrics to existing buckets of metrics. We haven’t finalized V2 yet, but we are actively listening to and processing feedback from our customers. Please ping us with feedback from your network, if you haven’t already.

Yammer Analytics Version 2 is the first Version of the much more good-looking. The dashboard analysis can help us keep a pulse of the general health and use Yammer!
I love to use these analytics but since I’m running a non-profit community the free version of Yammer is the only one we can afford. Too bad, but I used to use the simple metrics in the top left corner when you hovered over ‘Yammer’. It used to show how many members and how many messages your (free) network has, but not anymore. Any word of this will return?
I have question about Yammer Leaderboard. Anyway to expand it or configure it to find similar data for the specific topic? We’ve been trying to use it for that purpose in a lot of cases.
Sorry, the comment is closed for the Leaderboard product news. But I’d really like to get update in this front. Thanks!
Please get in touch with your customer success manager, and he / she should be able to look up data for you.
Can we run analytics on a group rather than on the entire network of an user?
what are the things that yammer administrator can do
Sandra: you can learn more here: https://www.yammer.com/about/pricing/
In general, admins are able to manage content and users, add additional compliance and security features, authorize and manage applications and integrations.
Please contact sales for a deeper dive!
Can we run analytics on specific groups?
I also would like to know if there is analytics for the group I created.
Great question, Ruby! Currently, there isn’t, but it’s something we are want to address in the future.
Will there be any form of social network analysis, ideally with a graphing function – so we can identify who are the hubs and outliers in the social network?
I would also like to be notified when analytics for Groups become available. Thanks!
Hi Oscar, There are some analytics available for Groups right now, groups created, public group, private groups, active groups. We do not have plans to dive further into Group analytics at this time.
Will there be an ability for users to run that analytics with regard to their connections or are you limiting the functionality to admins.
Analytics will continue to be on a network level, and we do not have plans for individual or group level analytics. Thanks for the question!
Is it possible to show a single users activity (statistics) on Yammer ? (times logged in, minutes logged in)
Hi Leon, the current analytics do not show activity at a user level. They provide group and network analytics.
Hi there,is there any way to gather stats on the free version. Like others in this chat being able to provide stats would in time support our proposal to go to paid version of yammer.
Thanks
